That Elusive Sleep and Other Short Tales

Oh how I wish I could sleep like normal people. These days it just isn’t happening. Some nights are good, but this isn’t one of them. To top it off, I need the sleep. I’m headed out early in the morning with my brother and my dad to head out of town.

We are off to a memorial service of a very special woman, my cousin’s wife who lost her battle with cancer recently. She was an exceptionally wonderful and funny person, always so full of life. She fought valiantly to say the least and will be missed by so many.

As it is, if I were to fall asleep precisely in 3 minutes, I could get up to 4.5 hours of sleep. It’s a good thing I’m not driving, although I am a navigator since we recently were there at the same church for my sweet uncle’s funeral. My brother is driving and was out of town last time. Thank the good Lord above for GPS and Google maps!

I continue to heal these days, but my mind and heart have been rather heavy which is why I haven’t written much. It isn’t anything about my health I’m particular, just that I want so much to be completely back to my old self and I grow so impatient sometimes. There have been a few other issues that burden my heart, but they are mine alone. All I can do is pray for that matter to eventually resolve itself.

We celebrated dear Hubs’ birthday yesterday which was great. The cake that my middle 2 kids made was extraordinary! Bear was the baker and Bug was the sculptor! They even made their own marshmallow fondant! It was delicious too! I have to say, eating a cake so cute and named ‘Beau, the Otter’ is rather hard to do!

Thursday will mark Hubs and my 10th anniversary. I’m very excited. I can’t say we have anything planned. I’m actually just glad to  not be in a hospital and to be feeling better at this point. Sure, I wish we could do something special, but all I keep thinking is the medical bills will be coming soon. Very soon. I didn’t think we would be where we are at this point in our marriage, in fact, I pictured things quite differently. What I can tell You is this, we have had our own very unique and bumpy journey to get here, but it’s proven that our love is a forever love based on the right values and morals with a foundation of faith. I wouldn’t trade this man in for anything. No one else would or could put up with the highly emotional, sometimes irrational, often overthinking, loud-mouthed, opinionated, but thoroughly lovable me. Thank you Jim from the bottom of my heart, for always supporting me No matter what! I never truly understood love until I married you.

Yes, I know you feel neglected. I know that feeling all too well..I promise I’ll be back to drive you mad soon enough. For now, you will just have to look at some old posts.

Please don’t forget me though! I’m just a short time from returning. I just had to fight off a bit of an awful infection first. I’ve a drain in which is terribly terrible but I’ve named him Pablo, to keep my spirits up. I’ll have him about 2 -3 weeks. The site, where my stomach surgery had been 2 weeks before was feeling okay but not like it should, before Pablo.  Now, I’m starting to feel better. At last.

Before Pablo, I was having daily fevers. They weren’t very high fevers, but to this well-seasoned nurse, it was a certain sign that something was amiss and it was most certainly, an infection.

Thank God, for such wonderful inventions and all that we have! I had a CT scan and just like that the infection was found. Now, the not so jolly part. The healing…
It just takes time but it is hard to write while mending. I will be back! Try to keep me back! Until then, my love to you my sweet followers, and to new friends.

The Oddities in Life

If you look up odd things on a google search, you will find a plethora of some very strange things and some things that are quite ordinary.  I was looking to see if I could find a picture of something odd in order to write a fictional story using that as my prompt.  Instead, of finding what I was looking for, I found crazy things to write about.  Take this picture for example.  How could I even begin to explain this?

Why would you do this?  If you were hiding from something or someone, I hate to tell you that your bright orange sack of clothing is hanging out the end of the booth.  It just isn’t working for me.  And what is that orange outfit thing?

Here’s another great one.  Great odd jobs.  This is definitely one I would steer clear of.  Why would anyone put themselves into the position of sniffing someone’s armpits? That’s just disgusting.  I  suppose they are  smelling for pheromones or some such silliness, but how gross to have a job of sniffing sweaty pits!!

Then we come to this little odd gem.  Oh yes, I’m certain that some strange individual would love to have a table like this in their boudoir.  I, for one, am not one of them.  I mean, seriously, a table with feet, and socks?  The socks don’t even match.  Well, they sort of match, but really, a table with feet?  Especially not to put my fruit on.  I think the part that makes this table stand out to me in such a yucky way is the fact that it has “legs”.  And only one sock is mismatched.  I mean, if you’re going to make that much of an effort, match the damn socks, people.  That just seems weird to me, but I’m a little odd myself.

Then we come to the not so very odd pictures found on the odd picture search.  Seriously can’t imagine what they are thinking when they can actually put something as mundane as this next one in the same category as “odd” seeing some of the other finalists.  I haven’t even shown you some of the more risque ones, as I like keeping this blog at least PG in rating.  This is simply an odd apple among the rest.  Poor little apple.  I could help.  I’d eat it and then it wouldn’t be the odd man out anymore.   Problem solved.  Too brutal?  I think not.

I know you are all pondering what has gotten into me that I would post such ODD nonsense.  Well, I was in the mood to write a really good fictional story and I couldn’t find a picture.  If you find a picture and want me to write a story around it, I would love to.  Or if you have an idea, I’ll use that too.  I guess today, I’m just in an ODD mood.  How about you?  Hope you are enjoying a lovely weekend!

Much Love,

Deirdre xx

Finally Quote Day 2

Image result for outlander quotes

I’m finally home from the hospital and freed from all the annoying tubes and wires.  This means it’s blogging time!  I’ve missed blogging so much.  It also means, I can get back to my second day of quotes, more importantly, Outlander quotes.  I said regarding the first quote how deeply Claire and Jamie loved each other.  If this quote from Jamie doesn’t seal that idea into your head, I don’t know what will.  I don’t want you to think that this series is just some sloppy love story though.  It is anything but what you would expect  My husband has laughed when I’ve read pieces from these books because Diana Gabaldon is the wittiest and most imaginative author I have ever had the grace to read.  If you haven’t already, I absolutely suggest reading her work or at least watching the series on Starz.  It is also done very well.

Now, for today’s nominees… duh, duh, duuuuh!

  1. https://monicavel.wordpress.com/   a wonderful motivational blogger with great advice!
  2. https://winewankers.com/  The best wine blog ever! Man, I’m looking forward to a good glass when I’m no longer on my pain meds!
  3. https://musicteacherlifestyle.wordpress.com/ Be inspired by a music teacher’s lifestyle

That’s it for today’s quote.  Check back again tomorrow for another Ourlander quote and 3 more nominees.  If  you choose to play along that’s great!  We’d love to have you long for the fun.  If you choose not to, just let me know.  I won’t be offended.

Love and peace to you all,

Deirdre x0

Woes of Technology

image

I realized I’ve been a bit lame on my pictures lately but please excuse me. I’ve been doing a lot of writing from my phone which means I can upload some photos, but not others. My laptop is giving me all sorts of issues with this changing of pictures. The issue as I stated in a previous technological quandary post, is that when technology works, it’s great , but when it fails to comply with basic functioning… Arrgghhh!

First. My cell phone went kaput! That was a tragedy of epic proportions for me! All of my appointments and contacts and photos are there! Yes, I’m one of those people. I have given myself an intervention so that I’m not attached 24/7, but I felt like a lost puppy without my phone! Hubs, being the best man ever, took care of the problem device and was able to get said device fixed for me! Way to go, honey! Rocking the casbah, babe!

Now, since updating the laptop to Microsoft 10, I can’t seem to use any pictures for my blog! Well. Very few! It’s nearly impossible to save the images when I find that perfect one and to top it all off, I can’t seem to figure out how to upload my phone photos to the laptop! Grrrr…

Perhaps I shall figure this all out soon. I sure hope I do because it’s really annoying to write something well and have no images to go along with the post! There aren’t many who have no images to share in the blogging world, or so I’ve noticed. Just wait till I get this figured out.

Regardless of projects, processors and pithy comments, I have to simply say that I will continue forward with my mad blogging skills. I won’t let the technology revolution too me to shreds! I’ve come this far and have much to write about the world. Who knows what my next adventure will be! All knew.wish me luck!

A Bit About Me

I was cruising through some of my favorite blogger’s posts this morning, of course while drinking my coffee.  I love to have those lazy mornings drinking coffee in bed and reading everyone’s latest posts.  I can only do this on the weekends now and miss keeping up with everyone.  Wow, what amazing talent and fun people there are in this world.  I’ve made friends throughout the world through blogging.  It’s one of my favorite parts about blogging.  The connection of people.

20140906_144130While reading this morning, I discovered a challenge that I also challenge all of you to do.  You can look at it as a meet and greet, of sorts.  It’s just 30 questions to fill in our answers to.  How much fun!  I would like to thank each of you for visiting my blog.  Some of you visit regularly and others, it may be your first time.  I do hope you keep visiting though.  I love to write.  It’s who I am just as much as my being a wife, mother and nurse.  I love to look at the stats on my page and see how many people have visited and which country they’re from.  You mean the world to me, really!  Thank you.

Now for the fun part. The questions!

Light of My Heart

Another poem I wrote that I am fond of was written for Hubs.  He truly is my better half.  He is the one that comforts me when I need comforting, which has been a lot over the last 6 months.  He knows just the right words to use to get through to me.  He is the love of my life.  I couldn’t just go through this life without him by my side.

We were high school sweethearts and friends before that even.  I’ve known him since I was 10.  I dumped him.  Yes, I know.  I was going through a phase in life when I was young and didn’t understand myself all that well.  I actually fell madly in love with someone else and got married.  I remained in love with my husband for a very long time, but we both changed over time and eventually divorced.  Guess who never married! Yep, that would be Hubs.  This summer we will celebrate our 10th anniversary.  I have never been happier to have him in my life.

We have both grown in our relationship.  He and I still work on communication with each other.  I’m a communicator while he is not.  It’s just our personality type. I’m very open about everything.  He is very private.  When they say opposites attract, it’s true to an extent.  Hubs and I are different in many ways, but very much alike in others.  The choice we make everyday is to accept each other as we are.

I hope you enjoy reading my poem for Hubs.  He is the most wonderful man I know.  If you’d like to read my poem, and I do hope you do, please visit my poetry blog at My Blog Of Life.  There you will find all my poetry.  Thanks in advance for visiting.  Oh, and if you’re worried water is cheap.  What is there iare all original poems and I promise, they’re short!
